Monday we went to Punk Rock Bowling to see the Damned and FLAG. My shoes were uncomfortable, so I wandered out to the shops. I went to the Container Park but didn’t find anything. It was SO hot.
Coming back to the hotel I ran into Jordan and Herb, then Chuck Dukowski came out.
FLAG changed the Black Flag logo to be straight bars instead of uneven bars. Herb got that tattoo at the Punk Rock Museum the day before.
We ordered pizza and artichoke hearts, caprese and Caesar salad for lunch. The Diavola pizza was really spicy. It surprised Bob by having eggs on it.
We headed over to the concert around 3:30. We saw Jim Ruhland and Dave Jones
Plus Martin and Eloise
Dez was kind enough to put us on the list so we had a VIP area with couches. Nick was also in the VIP area. But when the Damned came on I was able to make my way right up to the front by Captain Sensible. They are right on it every single time. Bob said it was sweet watching Martin sing “Eloise” to Eloise. I didn’t see because I was in front. Because yeah, I will leave Bob’s ass behind to make it to the front of the stage.
While hanging out between bands I noticed a guy wearing a T-shirt with the SS Nazi lightning bolts on it. I was pointing it out to a girl next to me and trying to decide what to do. It was Veterans Day and everyone was saying this to people with military pins, so I was going to say ironically, “Oh, you were in the SS? Thank you for your service.” But then Bob came back and I didn’t want to make him fight nazis. I’m a good wife. But the rest of the audience took care of it once it got dark and enough beer was imbibed…
FLAG was awesome, although Dez’s voice was a little thrashed. Brings me right back to when I was 15.
